Korematsu NHD Competition
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Jacob K. and I am an eighth grader at Korematsu Middle School in El Cerrito, California. I completed this project, No Taxation Without Representation: Taxes in the British Colonies with Miya E. for the NHD County Competition and we won first place in the exhibit category and are going to the State Competition in Rocklin on May 5th and 6th. We chose this topic because we are both very interested in Colonial America ever since we learned about it in fifth grade. Our interest has grown over the past three years because of the musical "Hamilton" and in-depth studying this year in eighth grade. Our favorite part of the process was looking at all the primary sources on the Smithsonian and the Library of Congress websites, and were surprised that all the documents are still around today. We need to raise 650 dollars by April 15th. That will cover a 90 dollar (each) fee and travel expenses for the weekend. The whole entire process at the County Competition was super fun. We did not think we could win the County Competition, but our confidence was significantly boosted when we had success in the interview. We were so excited to win and we can't wait to present our project at the State Competition.
